Synchronicity of All Life

What a joy to spend a week at Southeastern Spiritual Conference in Greensboro, NC.!

All week we acknowledged friendships and created new friendships. We studied together, played together, healed together. We opened the windows of our souls and allowed others to see our true beings and, in doing so, we understood even better our own selves.

How do you take such an experience and integrate it into your “normal” life? When we gather with like minds for an extended period, we wonder how we can remain in the same space when we return to our daily lives of family, profession, and social activities. The Sacred Space we create at conference or any similar gathering can be our everyday reality if we just look beyond the obvious.

When I left conference, I drove straight to my 8 yr old granddaughter’s birthday party at a local skating rink. What a switch! From the serenity of Guilford College campus to a public skating rink hosting two birthday parties.

As I donned my skates, I had a moment of reflection trying to remember the last time roller skates adorned my feet. My granddaughter Casey showed me how she pushes off with one foot and glides with the other. Then she took my hand and together we entered the rink. That moment will forever be precious to me: Her 8 year old confidence and endless possibilities joining my 61 year old trust and determination.

After a round or two, our hands released our grasp and we skated apart. Gratefully the energy and learning of conference continued within me and my skating morphed into my spirituality. No one there was aware of my realizations as I skated. No one but me and that is all that mattered.

After several more times around the rink and feeling more balanced on my feet, I realized that skating by oneself is easier than skating with someone else. You have to be comfortable with your own self before you can be comfortable partnering with another. Have to do our own inner homework before we share the lessons with others.

Soon I realized I was watching my feet, looking down at the floor of the skating rink. I glanced up and felt completely different. Just that change in gaze allowed me to relax more and skate more confidently. How often can a change in perspective make all the difference in the world? When we concentrate on our next step, when we become so involved in what to do next, we forget to look ahead and trust Spirit to get us there. When we let go and allow Spirit to lead us, we begin to realize how intricate and beautiful are the ways of Spirit.

As I became more comfortable trusting those wheels under my feet to remain in contact with the floor and not the air, my body relaxed even more. My arms began to move following the rhythm created as I skated. Relaxing and allowing arm movement really helped me balance even more. I could then pick up speed and feel the slight breeze created on my face as I skated faster. So it is with Spirit. When we relax and allow ourselves to move with Spirit, we resonate with the universal song of life. We free ourselves to move into new adventures with eager anticipation.

A week at conference and an afternoon at the skating rink blended into an experience of completeness as I enjoyed the synchronicity and oneness of Spirit. We can indeed integrate our spirituality into our everyday lives as we marvel at the beauty of Spirit in all we do.

I encourage you to appreciate all the ways Spirit reveals herself to you. Truly we receive gems of insight when we bathe ourselves in the synchronicity of all life.
